My Story
I was born in Leeds and lived in Cross Green, East End Park. All celebrities have start out poor. Then we moved to Swarcliffe, not much of an improvement. I went to Swarcliffe Primary School and had a great time there; I always enjoyed school for some strange reason. I think it was the school dinners, you were allowed seconds. I was even a beaver, cub and scout, and people wonder why I turned gay! So I had a really great childhood. Then it was time for high school, I went to John Smeaton Community High School. Half way through high school we moved to Manston in Crossgates. Now this was a lot better, you could walk to the corner shop without being mugged. Most people who live around us are elderly, sometimes it’s like you’re in the film ‘Cocoon’, thank god there are no swimming pools about, otherwise they’d be energising all the time. I loved the house the minute I saw it because it was a period property and we still live here at present.
So in high school I was popular person, kind of a plastic. I had loads of friends and had a really good time. I was mainly known in school for being in Drama. I was always singing, dancing, acting, all the usual gay stuff. I was liked by many teachers and did a lot of after school activates such as singing lessons which led to a few club turns with my singing teacher.
I was also involved in The Global Rock Challenge, which was a big dancing competition that loads of other schools took part in. I had main roles in the competition for a couple of years.
In school I had three best friends, Peewee, Wayne and Jon. I remember doing a show called Popping Out and it was the first time I did drag. I was about 16 I think, I dressed up as Cher and performed Dove Lamoure. Unfortunately I didn't look anything like Cher as it was my first attempt at drag make-up; I looked more like the wicked witch of the west from Oz.
Anyway after high school I stayed on in sixth form for 2 years studying Performing Arts which I passed at Distinction level. I also came out to my family which went down really good and I’m not being sarcastic. My family were not bothered about me being gay and things carried on as normal.
While I was in sixth form I started DJ’ing, I met a man called John Baxter who was a DJ wanting to retire. He took me under his wing and taught me everything I know. I worked all over the country with him until I decided to go solo. I bought myself a car and some DJ gear and my dad and I started mobile DJ’ing.
Over the years we did loads of party’s, birthday’s, weddings etc. I had residency at two venues, The Staging Post and Torre Road Social Club. We travelled all over and I was DJ’ing nearly 5 nights a week. I then landed my biggest contract with the International Hilton Hotel and I was there biggest DJ. After a few years I decided to settle down and get a permanent residency and stop being mobile. I started working at The Manston Pub in Crossgates as a DJ and barman. Around this time I also met my first boyfriend, David. We met in QC on a Monday night, cheap night, Lol. He was my first love and always will be.
After the Manston I decided I wanted to DJ and work in a gay environment. I got myself a job at The Base where I will always call my second home. The base introduced me to the gay world and the people. I was the DJ and for sometime the assistant manager. I also fell in love for the second time with a lad called Simon. I won’t go into that story.
Anyway loads of things happened at The Base and I just want to say that I miss it loads.
I then left The Base to go work at the famous BIRDCAGE. I met a great friend called Miss Orry and he gave me a job as a drag queen. The rest is history...
